Balance is extremely important in skateboarding. It is the skill that allows riders to control themselves and their skateboards while riding. Without good balance, executing tricks and high-speed maneuvers becomes virtually impossible and just the act of propelling the skateboard can become dangerous.
Skateboarders encounter all sorts of obstacles when riding, including rough surfaces, uneven terrain, drop-offs, bumps and debris in the road. They need to be able to continuously adjust their body position, the angle of the board surface, and the way they are applying force to the board while maintaining their upright posture. None of that happens without good balance.
The GiBoard Balance Board is a great tool for training balance for skateboarders because it is both safe and effective. It is safe because there is almost no momentum involved in balancing on the GiBoard line, the board is stationary, and the line itself is very close to the ground, all of which minimize any risk of falling. It is effective because the line provides instant and granular feedback on balancing in every three-dimensional plane and is extremely challenging to master. It is an ideal platform for teaching the brain to keep the body aligned while leaning forward and rearward in a skateboarding position. It also enables advanced skateboarders to use carpet boards (skateboard decks with the wheels and trucks removed) on the line to practice difficult rail-based maneuvers, effectively using the GiBoard line as a rail and the carpet board as a skateboard. This is particularly effective because it permits practicing difficult and dangerous tricks much more safely.
